Between finals and coming home I’ve kind of dropped off with the posts, but I still have a couple more I want to write before calling the blog finished. Here are some of the things I did back in November..

Botanical Garden

It never got too cold in Copenhagen but on a rainy, gray day it’s still nice to be in a warm, green environment. It was the largest botanical garden I’ve been to with multiple rooms and stairs going up to a second level in the main room. The building itself was also great mainly because I love the look of greenhouses and botanical gardens.

PP Møbler

As part of our Danish Design class we went north of Copenhagen to visit the furniture company PP Møbler. The company focuses on craftsmanship and values creating high quality furniture. Getting to see the process behind creating what have become iconic designs was interesting and really illustrated the difference between hand-crafted furniture pieces and mass-produced items.

F.C. Copenhagen

One of my goals for the semester was to see a soccer game and after missing a full semester of athletic events it was nice to be in that environment again. Getting there was a bit of a mess as I transferred onto the right bus going in the wrong direction and ended up getting to the game 4 minutes after it started. I was sitting in the very last row which was nice for space but I also had no idea what was going on for most of the game. Both video boards were covered by beams from where I was sitting and as someone who relies on the video boards to tell me where I should be looking combined with being so far up I couldn’t tell what was happening. I didn’t know which color was for which team until 34 minutes in when the first goal was scored. F.C. Copenhagen ended up winning and while it wasn’t the best game I’ve ever been to I’m still glad I went. Here's the game highlights if anyone's interested.

The Blue Planet

The watercolor class I was in took a trip to The Blue Planet, an aquarium outside of Copenhagen, to do a little bit of painting.

The Cisterns

The Cisterns was where the city of Copenhagen stored water but has since been turned into a gallery space. The exhibition I saw was IN IS THE ONLY WAY OUT by Jeppe Hein. I had never been in a space like this one and it definitely enhanced the pieces and experience. The first room had slow spinning metal circles with different textures and cutouts. The second room had various singing bowls on pedestals with a track running along the ceiling. There were balls hanging from the track which moved around the room hitting the bowls as they moved. The acoustics of the space where sounds continued for 17 seconds combined with the dark room created an almos eerie experience.
