After spending a full weekend in studio finishing up my first design project I decided that the next weekend I’d take a short trip somewhere, so this past Saturday I took the short 45-minute train ride to Malmö, Sweden. As much as I like Copenhagen it was nice to be somewhere a little quieter for the day.

Malmö kind of reminded me of Des Moines in terms of its size and how busy it was on Saturday afternoon. Still more bikes than Des Moines but not as many as in Copenhagen.

I didn’t have any set plans for the day so I just started wandering. I went to Moderna Museet which had an exhibition of old photos and was also free. I’m on the hunt for a cool jacket so I also checked out a few thrift stores but didn’t end up leaving with anything. I was surprised by how many of the shirts had names of U.S. cities on them. After the thrift stores I went to a bookstore to grab a couple of postcards. My lack of a plan ended up causing me to walk 10 miles throughout the city so I spent the last hour or so sitting by the river that runs through the city. There were lots of people fishing, a couple of cool cat sculpture, and a nice sitting area surrounded by lots of birds.

My short venture into Sweden was a nice, relaxing way to spend a Saturday. If I go back I think I'll rent a bike for the day and also try and learn a few words in Swedish. While my Danish is progressing I don't think the level I'm at provided any help in trying to read and understand Swedish. I know this post was pretty short but I think the next one will even things out.
